HONOLULU – May 23, 2008 – The state of Hawaii has signed a new five-year contract with eGovernment firm NIC (NASDAQ: EGOV) to manage its official government portal http://www.Hawaii.gov. NIC has never lost a competitive rebid for a current state enterprise portal.
NIC signed its original multiyear contract with Hawaii in 2000. The state of Hawaii issued a competitive bid for eGovernment portal services in August 2007 and the contract was awarded again to NIC. The new contract was approved by the Department of Accounting and General Services and went into effect in January 2008. The agreement runs through January 2013 and includes multiple three-year renewal options.
Hawaii uses the NIC self-funded solution to provide eGovernment services at no upfront cost to citizens and businesses. In the past eight years, NIC has worked with more than 25 state agencies to develop more than 50 interactive government services. More than 530,000 eGovernment transactions and nearly $320 million in payments were securely processed by http://www.hawaii.gov last year.
“Our goal is to be easy to do business with for our businesses and citizens,” said Russ Saito, State Comptroller, Director of the Department of Accounting and General Services, and Chair of the Access Hawaii Committee. "We see online services as a key to state productivity and improved public service. Through our partnership with NIC, we are able to offer this at no up-front cost to taxpayers.”
Hawaii.gov offers a suite of services including: Initial business filings; Income tax filings; freshwater game fishing applications; camping permits; online ID services; Labor wage reporting; Unemployment Insurance payments; insurance license renewals; business name searches; professional and vocational license searches and more.
